I built Terminal to explore concepts that the medium of a video game might not traditionally afford. I’ve never created a game, so I didn’t worry about bending the rules about what a game is.
Terminal is a story about life and death. You’ll choose your own path through it, yet you might surprise yourself by arriving at the same destination. The game actually has a few different endings, but they’re all thematically aligned; the novel, of course, has only one.
And while it’s a game and a novel, I wrote Terminal as thousands of lines of poetry, bound together in two-to-three-sentence stories that themselves are bound together across six chapters that make up a life.
All of Terminal is my way of showing you what I know and feel about the American Midwest and where that place is heading. By extension, I hope that it shows you where we all are going, both as a civilization and as our own selves.
I hope that it’s as fulfilling for you to experience as it was for me to write, design, and publish.
